A study of economic principles, with emphasis on their application to the solution of farm, agribusiness, and agricultural industry problems in relationship to other sectors is known as Agricultural Economics. In United States and many other foreign countries the branch of study has great importance. Agricultural economics teach people how to predict trends in markets for farm products. Students learn how farms and ranches use resources and invest in agriculture. They learn to observe and explain changes in markets
As an agricultural economist; you would monitor crops, prices, animal health, equipment, imports and exports, weather cycles, buying patterns, and new methods of production. You would consider ups and downs in the general economy and consumer preferences. When you have special expertise, such as in crops or equipment, you might work as an agricultural consultant. Agricultural economists usually have at least a master's degree.
Applicants must possess a Bachelors degree or an equivalent qualification for studying M.Sc. in Agricultural Economics. Minimum duration is 2 years on full time basis. Ph. D. Degree Programme in Agricultural Economics requires respective master degree.
The growing complexity of the global food system, coupled with advances in food production, processing, biotechnology, and changes in government policy will spur demand for agricultural business majors. Indeed, the growing need for well-trained students with knowledge of agricultural production, marketing, finance, and policy is expected to result in additional jobs in the future.

Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management will be your own boss. Working in family enterprises and managing small businesses are the focus of opportunities in this area.
Agribusiness Management You may work in sales, management, appraisal, research, or public relations for businesses that produce, buy, sell, process, and distribute agricultural products.
Public Service Public service careers are available at the federal, state, and local levels. Federal careers are in such areas as agricultural production, marketing, finance, conservation, and others. State and local agencies offer a wide variety of careers.
Veterinary Management The pre-vet option allows students to take the scientific classes necessary to enter veterinary medicine while acquiring the skills necessary to manage a veterinary practice upon completion of the veterinary medicine program.
Finance and Appraisal You would have the opportunity to make loans, evaluate investment opportunities, and appraise property. Students work for lending institutions such as commercial and farm banks.
Farm Business Management You would manage farm operations, work for integrated agricultural firms, or own and manage your own farm.
International Agriculture and Development Job opportunities in international agriculture have multiplied in recent years, mostly because of the growth of multinational firms and the efforts of businesses, foundations, and national governments to assist developing countries. You would be employed in development, finance, production, natural resource management and marketing in countries throughout the world.
Remuneration in this field is generally high. The salary varies from one position to the other. For clerical grade the starting salary may vary between Rs.7, 000 – Rs.10, 000 in public sector banks. The private banks and foreign banks offer comparatively higher salary. Those who get selected for probationary officers in public sector banks earn minimum Rs.10, 000 per month as starting salary. Apart from the salary employees are also offered bonus, perks, allowances, incentives and other benefits which are revised from time to time.
