Introduction
Madurai Kamaraj University was inaugurated on 6th February 1966. The university was originally known as Madurai University and was named after the city of Madurai.
In 1978, the name of the University was changed to Madurai Kamaraj University to honour one of the most illustrious sons of our country.
The motto of the University is "To seek truth is knowledge" and which has been taken from Tirukkural.
The university has 18 schools comprising 72 departments and around 109 colleges are affiliated with the university.
Recently the University has been given a status of “University with Potential for Excellence” by University Grants commission
Directorate of Distance Education
The University started its Institute of Correspondence Courses and Continuing Education in 1971, which was renamed as Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) in 1996.
The directorate offers Undergraduate, Postgraduate courses in arts, commerce, science, management, computer applications.
Application forms and prospectus
Application form and prospectus can be obtained by sending a demand draft with a covering letter mentioning name and address of the student and the course. The letter must be sent to The Director, D.D.E., Madurai Kamaraj University, Palkalai Nagar, Madurai - 625 021.
The candidates from other states can obtain the application forms from the state study centres they wish to join on production of a Demand Draft drawn in favour of
"The Director, DDE, MKU". Payable at Madurai.
