Kuvempu University was established in 1987 with an aim to provide high quality value based education to the students of Karnataka in particular and the nation as a whole. It is the youngest affiliating university in Karnataka which has 133 colleges under its jurisdiction. The university has 50 post graduate departments in the faculties of Arts, Science, Commerce, Law and Humanities. The university spreads over an area of 230 acres with a serene environment.

Both conventional and non conventional courses are offered in its constituent and affiliated colleges. Apart from regular class room programs the varsity also offers various undergraduate and post graduate courses under distance mode of education. The Directorate of Distance Education provides all necessary resources for conducting the programs. The DDE at present offers 40 courses in different faculties of arts, Science, Commerce, Law ad Humanities etc.

The distance education programs offered by the DDE have the objective of offering quality education at the door steps. The courses are useful for those candidates who are unable to attend the conventional system of class room programs but have the zeal to study further.
