Mahatma Gandhi Chitrakoot Gramodaya Vishwavidyalaya was established in the year of 1991. It is the first full-fledged rural University created on the recommendations of Dr. Radhakrishnan Report.
The rural University on one hand, is the outcome of movement for ‘people’s Education’. On the other hand, it is also a revolution in itself against the traditional pattern of education. The University is engaging in transformation of the rural area.
Mahatma Gandhi Chitrakoot Gramodaya Vishwavidyalaya has completed a decade of its existence and proceeding forward in the path of fulfillment of the objectives behind its inception. In this reference, a project style of operation has been founded. 25 projects are operational presently with many other are in the way.
Many innovations are envisaged to impart moral education to uplift the mental attitude and personality of the students. Among these the most remarkable one is the well-formed foundation courses component called "values and social responsibility" (VSR) through which the students are given orientation to understand values of individual and society and enabled in their personality restructuring and attitudinal changes through proper skill development and community service experience.
The rural University is now evolving as a State support Structure for Rural Development.
