Purpose: SAT Subjects Test – This
test measures the knowledge of mathematics through the first three years of college-preparatory mathematics for Level 1 and through pre calculus for Level 2.

Format:
SAT Subjects Test – Mathematics follows the following given format:

  • 50 multiple-choice questions.
  • The tests cover content typically taught in the first three years (for Level 1) or four years (for Level 2) of college-preparatory mathematics.

Students are not expected to have studied every topic on either test.

Use of Calculators : SAT Subjects Test – Guidelines for the use of Calculators-Use of Calculator is allowed in SAT subjects Test-Mathematics (Mathematics Level 1 and Mathematics Level 2).

  • Both the tests require the use of a scientific or graphical calculator. It is not necessary to use a calculator to solve every question, but it is important to know when and how to use one. Students who take these tests without a calculator may be at a disadvantage.
  • Both tests are developed with the expectation that most students are using graphic calculators. A graphic calculator may provide an advantage over a scientific calculator on some questions. However, student should carry the calculator one they are most familiar with.
  • For 50–60% of the questions on Level 1 and 35–45% of the questions on Level 2, there is no advantage, perhaps even a disadvantage, of using a calculator.
  • For 40–50% of the questions on Level 1 and 55–65% of the questions on Level 2, a calculator may be useful or necessary.
