To fulfill its commitment, the institute has dedicated research laboratories where faculty members along with other researcher workers work day and night. IMS- IP Multimedia Subsystems (IMS) Innovation laboratory carries out research and development in the areas of Accounting, Device and Management, Security, and Audio-Video streaming. The laboratory also take of issues related to Quality of Service (QoS) modeling in the IMS architecture with respect to differential traffic.

HP's Open Call Group is the sponsor of IMS Innovation Laboratory.

The students' of IIIT Bangalore and faculty members work hard in close association with HP India, France and United States.

The projects undertaken by IMS Innovation Laboratory are best examples of academics and industry collaborations.

Open Systems Laboratory (OSL): The Open System Laboratory of IIIT Bangalore conducts research work in the disciplines like database and information retrieval. The OSL conducts research studies mainly in the areas of graph data management, text mining, social network analysis, and mobile data management.

The Planet Lab grid is a worldwide grid for testing of distributed algorithms, hosted by OSL in India. Another major project undertaken by OSL is Vidyavahini. Vidyavahini's aim is to develop a wide-area data grid for academic materials.

Software Design Laboratory (SDL): The Software Design Laboratory of IIIT Bangalore conducts research in the areas of software design and architecture. The research team of SDL works on case-studies of software development. The worlds' biggest computer giant IBM has donated 40 floating licenses as part of its tie-up programme to SDL.

Wireless Networking Laboratory (WNL)- The Wireless Networking Laboratory (WNL) of IIIT Bangalore works in the areas of LAN, WAN etc. The laboratory also proposed a couple of QoS - MAC protocols as a part of its research programmes. The research team of WNL is fully committed for the improvement of MAC, LAN, WAN and others related technologies.

Center for Banking and IT (C-BIT)- The C-BIT center of IIIT Bangalore is committed to infuse IT and allied technologies in Banking and Finance sector. Major IT and Banking organizations like HP, Microsoft, TCS, Corporation Bank, Infosys etc are sponsors of C-BIT research projects.

The Research and Projects undertaken by IIIT Bangalore shows how the institution is committed for the fusion of IT and Allied sciences with other non IT sciences.
