About Punjabi University
Punjabi University, established on 30th April, 1962 is one of the pioneer institutions of higher learning in northern India. This is a university which has been named after a language. The initial objective of the university was to develop and promote the language of the Punjabi people but with the passage of time the varsity evolved into a multi-faceted, multi-faculty educational institution with over fifty five teaching and research departments covering disciplines in Humanities and in Sciences as diverse as Fine Arts and Space Physics.
For its academic and research expertise, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), an autonomous body of the UGC has conferred the Five Star status to the university by evaluating its various research projects undertaken and in the pipeline.
The Department of Correspondence Courses, Punjabi University is a pioneer institution in offering education through the distance mode. Since its inception in the year 1968 it remains the second institution of its kind in the country and the second to have offered regional language as medium of instruction and examination. Since then the Department has made significant contribution in the field of higher education by providing quality education at the door step of the learner. At present the Department is running 33 academic Programs and the average strength of the Department per year varies from 10000 to 12000.
