Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme

Applications are invited from the dependent wards/widows of Ex-Servicemen pursuing professional degree programmes, duly recognized by the respective government regulatory bodies such as MCI, AICTE and UGC etc. The scheme will be applicable only to those who have joined the first year professional courses in the academic year 2009-10

Amount of Scholarship :

(a) Rs.1250/— per month for boys
(b) Rs.1500/- per month for girls

Scholarships will be paid annually

The application form-cum- brochure can be downloaded from the website http://mod.nic.in After opening the website, click at Prime Minister‘s Scholarship Scheme application form. The Application Form/ Brochure would be displayed. This form is to be downloaded, filled in own handwriting or duly typed.

Application is to be sent to respective Rajya Sainik Boards either in person or by post along with a Demand Draft of Rs.30/- (Rupees thirty only) in favour of Secretary, Kendriya Sainik Board, Payable at New Delhi.

Last date for receipt of application in respective Rajya Sainik Boards is 15th February, 2010. Applications received after the last date ie., 15th February, 2010 will not be entertained.

K.C. Mahindra - Scholarship for Post-Graduate Studies Abroad - 2010
The trustees of K.C.Mahindra Education trust offer interest-free loan scholarships to Indian nationals for Post-Graduate studies abroad in various fields.

Applications are invited for the K.C. Mahindra Scholarships for the year 2010 for advanced studies in Engineering, Natural Sciences, Humanities, Medicine & Business Management including the study of Military, Naval and Aviation Sciences.

The Maximum amount of scholarships payable to any scholar shall not exceed Rs.95,000/- Applicants for these scholarships are required to satisfy the following conditions:

1. They must possess a FIRST CLASS degree or an equivalent diploma of the same standard from a recognised Indian University.

2. They must have secured admission or have applied for admission in reputable foreign Universities for courses commencing from August/ September, 2010 but not later than February, 2011.

Candidates studying in the FINAL YEAR of the degree or diploma courses are also eligible to apply provided they produce their Final Year Certificate before end June,2010.

Government and Quasi-Government Officers with a creditable academic record, going abroad for specialised qualifications are also eligible to apply.

The J.N. Tata Endowment - Scholarships 2010 – 2011 for the Higher Education of Indians
Applications are invited from Indian nationals for the J. N. TATA ENDOWMENT LOAN SCHOLARSHIPS for the academic year 2010-2011 for higher studies abroad in all disciplines and subjects. Selected scholars may also qualify for gift awards.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE ?

Applicants who are :

i) Indian nationals; and

ii) (a) graduates of a recognised Indian university with a consistently good academic record; or

(b) students in the final year ofthe degree course; or

(c) mid-career professionals upto the age of 45 years, planning to go abroad for further research, specialisation or training

At the time of submitting the completed applications, candidates need not have the admission / award letters from the universities to which they have applied for the academic year 201 0-2011.

HOW TO APPLY ?

Prescribed application forms will be available from the Administrative Office of the Endowment at Mulla House, 51 M.G. Road, Fort, Mumbai 400 001 from December 7, 2009 to February 15, 2010.

The application fee of Rs.100/- can be paid in cash or by a Money Order on which the full name and address is to be mentioned to enable the Endowment to send the form.

Completed application forms should reach the office of the Endowment not later than March 1, 2010.

THE SELECTION PROCESS

After the initial screening of applications, candidates will be shortlisted for an interview in person by subject experts.

The final selection will be made on the basis of the interview which will be held in Mumbai between March and June 2010.

Scholarship Opportunities for Meritorious ST Students under the Scheme of Top Class Education

Attention of meritorious ST students who have gained admission in the institutes identified by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs is invited to the scheme of Top Class Education. For details see the Ministry’s website at www.tribal.nic.in . Eligible ST Students may apply for the scholarship through their respective institutes.

Objective

The scheme aims at recognizing the need to support meritorious ST students who gain admission in identified quality educational institutions, by providing full financial support to the selected meritorious students which would enable them to complete their courses of higher studies in these selected academic institutions of the country.

Eligibility

Those ST students who have secured admission in the notified institutions according to the norms prescribed by the respective institutions will be eligible for the scholarship under the scheme to the extent of the number of scholarships allocated to the institutes concerned. In case the number of students admitted exceeds the number of awards, then the scholarship will be restricted to the top 5 students in the inter-se merit list.

The remaining students from ST category admitted in the institute in different courses shall be eligible for the Post-Matric Scholarship (PMS) administered by this Ministry as a Centrally sponsored scheme, provided such students are otherwise eligible for the said scheme.

The total family income of the student to be eligible for
this scholarship from all sources should not exceed Rs.2.00
lakh per annum.

The scholarship will become payable immediately after a student has secured admission and has started attending the classes.

Note:

The scholarship will become payable to ST students only upon securing admission in any of the institutions notified by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs .

The students, who are awarded the scholarship under the scheme, shall have to pursue the study in the respective institution on whole time basis.

The institute will select the eligible ST students on the basis of merit and shall forward the merit list of the selected students in the prescribed proforma along with a duly verified copy of the application, proof of admission and fee chargeable etc. to claim the scholarship. The institute will not charge any fee whatsoever from the students.

After disbursement, the institute will furnish a Utilization Certificate towards the amount received, which will include the signature of the scholarship holders.

The Hindu – Hitachi Scholarships - 2009
In association with Hitachi Ltd., Tokyo, Japan, THE HINDU invites applications for scholarships for technical training in JAPAN. The number of scholarships will be three. The terms and conditions are as follows:

1. Candidates who must be Indian Citizens, should not have completed 30 years of age on 31-03-2010 and should be in possession of the minimum Degree of B.E., or B.Sc. (Engg.) or its equivalent from any recognized University. Candidates who have already had practical experience in the branches for which training is proposed to be given, will be given preference. Candidates with at least one year’s professional experience need apply. Those who were interviewed in previous years for/the Scholarships need not apply again.

2. The scholarships are tenable in Japan for principally six months commencing about July 2010. Trainees may have general training in one of the following product fields of Hitachi Ltd., (Hitachi) for example (1) Power Systems (2) Railway Systems (3) Industrial Systems (4) information and Telecommunication Systems, being subject to the convenience of each of Hitachi’s establishments. During the training, there will be special emphasis on environment-related and energy saving technologies.

3. Trainees shall be during their training, under the supervision and direction of Hitachi, which has full discretion on scope, mode, duration and place of establishment of their training. Training will not be available in the R&D activities of Hitachi. They will be subject to the rules and regulations and the discipline of the establishment to which they are posted

4. Selected trainees will be provided with return Economy Class air passage. Arrangements will also be made for free Boarding and Lodging for trainees in Japan and to defray all expenses for traveling in Japan which may be considered necessary for their training. In addition, each trainee will be paid a monthly fixed allowance to cover his personal expenses.

5. Parents or Guardians of selected candidates shall guarantee their good conduct and shall undertake to pay for their repatriation should their conduct be found unsatisfactory by Hitachi Ltd., or any public authority in Japan or in case the selected candidates desire to discontinue their studies in Japan for any reason whatsoever during
the period of their scholarship.

Important note - where to submit application form:

1. Heads of Govt/Aided Schools may forward consolidated statement of eligible students (Class XI & XII) to concerned Dy. Director of Education, Delhi.

2. Heads of recognized Public schools/ Kendriya Vidyalaya/Schools under MCD, NDMC, & Delhi Cantonment Board may forward consolidated statement of eligible student (Class Xl & XII) to this Department.

Conditions of Eligibility for SC / ST and OBC Students

1 . Only those SC/ ST /OBC students who possess caste certificate issued by Govt. of NCT of Delhi are eligible under this scheme.

2. Scholarship is available to all SC students whose parents / guardians income from all sources does not exceed Rs. 1 lakh per annum, all ST students whose parents / guardians income from all source does not exceed Rs. 1,08,000/- per annum and all OBC students whose parents / guardians income from all source does not exceed Rs. 44,500/- per annum who are pursuing Post Secondary (Colleges / institutions / Universities) level studies in Govt. / recognized institutions situated outside Delhi but within India during the academic year 2009-10.

3. Students pursuing studies through correspondence courses are also eligible.

4. incase of OBC parents, not more than two children will be entitled for receiving the above said scholarship. The restriction, however, is not applicable to girl students. There is also no such restriction in respect of SC/ST parents.

5. (i) For family income latest salary slip in the case of parent / guardian in government service and an affidavit from notary regarding other source of family income.

(ii) Income certificate from the concerned SDM of Delhi in the case of parent / Guardian engaged in private job / service.

6. Application should be submitted in the prescribed format only.

7. All the supporting documents should be attested by the Gazetted Officer.

8. A certificate from the School / College/institution to the effect that the students are not getting any other scholarship / stipend. Students
who have applied for merit scholarship are not eligible under this scheme.

9. Application duly signed by the Head of institutions with seal of the institute.

10. Date of admission in the course / commencement of class and completion of course should be clearly mentioned in the application form.

11 . Attested copies of certificates in Diploma, Degree etc. in respect of all previous examination passed should be enclosed with the
application. In case the student is hostler, Hostel Certificate from competent authority should be attached with the application.

12. Attested copy of caste certificate issued by competent authority of Govt. of N.C.T. of Delhi should be attached with application form.

13. Documentary proof of recognition / affiliation from Centre / State Government in respect of non-government Schools/Colleges / Intuitions should be attached with the application.

14. Attested copy of fee structure duly approved by Centre / State govt.

15. Schools/Colleges / Intuitions / university fee receipt in respect of every student be attached with the application.

The Scheme of National Overseas Scholarships For Schedule Tribes Candidates for the year 2009 – 2010

Applications in the prescribed format are invited for 15 National Overseas Scholarships and 4 Passage Grants from suitable candidates belonging to the following categories:-

The Scholarship is awarded for higher studies abroad in specified field of Engineering, Technology and Science and covers cost of tuition fee and other educational expenses including maintenance, other grants and travel expenses for various courses at Masters` level, Ph. D. and Post Doctoral level.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

(a) For Post Doctoral : 1st class with 60% marks or equivalent grade in relevant Master’s Degree and Ph.D.

Experience: 5 years - Research/Teaching/ Professional in the
concerned field is desirable. Candidates with experience would be given preference.

(b) For Ph.D. : 1st class with 60% marks or equivalent grade in relevant Master’s Degree.

Experience: 2 years’ - Teaching/ Research/ Professional / M. Phil Degree in the concerned field is desirable. Candidates with experience would be given preference.

(c) For Masters’ Degree : 1st Class with 60% marks or equivalent grade in relevant Bachelor’s Degree.

Experience: 2 years’ work experience in the concerned field is
desirable. Candidates with experience would be given preference.

AGE
Below 35 years, as on first day of the month of the advertisement of the scheme.

INCOME CEILING

Total income from all sources of the employed candidate or his/her
parents/guardians should not exceed Rs. 25,000/- per month (excluding such allowances as are not treated as part of total income for the purpose of income-tax ) as certified by the employer. A copy of latest tax-assessment, be also enclosed with application.

VALUE OF MAINTENANCE ALLOWANCE

A annual maintenance allowance in US will be US Dollars 14,000/- (Fourteen thousand) for all level of courses covered under the Scheme. The annual maintenance allowance for candidates in United Kingdom will be pound sterling 9,000/- for all levels of courses covered under the scheme.

EARNINGS FROM RESEARCH/TEACHING ASSISTANCESHIP

The awardees are permitted to supplement their prescribed allowances by undertaking Research/Teaching Assistantship up to US Dollars 2400/- per annum and for awardees in United Kingdom, pounds sterling 1560/- per annum. Where income earned is beyond these prescribed ceilings, the maintenance allowance under the scheme shall be correspondingly reduced by the Indian Missions abroad.

ANNUAL CONTINGENCY ALLOWANCE

A annual Contingency allowance for books/essential apparatus/study
tour/typing and binding of thesis etc. will be US Dollars 1375/- (one thousand three hundred seventy five only) for the candidates in US and for candidates in United Kingdom, it will be pounds sterling 1000/- per annum.

Selection Procedure

The scheme will be advertised in the newspapers along with summarized information about it. The candidates shall, after assessing their eligibility and suitability, as per conditions of the scheme, apply to this Ministry (employed candidates through proper channel), in the prescribed application form which will form a part of the advertisement. The last date of receiving applications will also be mentioned in the advertisement. Thereafter, all applications received up to the last date of receiving applications, as notified in advertisement, will be put before the Screening Committee. The candidates short listed by the Screening Committee will be required to
present themselves for personal interview before the Selection Committee. The merit list prepared, on the basis of assessment of individual candidates, by the Selection Committee, will finally and decisively complete the selection procedure to decide the merit. In case of tie-up of two or more candidates, the one who is eldest in age (as per date of birth) will be placed above the others, as per respective dates of birth as recorded in Secondary School Certificate.

Post-Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child for PG academic session 2009-11

The University Grants Commission, based on the initiative of MHRD, had introduced, from the year 2005-06, Post-Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child with purpose of supporting higher education through scholarship to such girls who happen to be only child in their families and also to provide incentive for the parents to observe small family norm.

Eligibility

Any single girl child being the only child of her parents is eligible under the scheme. The benefit under scheme will be available to such a single girl child who has taken admission in first year of a Master�s degree programmes in any recognized university or a post-graduate college during the current year i.e. 2009-10.

Rate of Scholarship: 2000

Duration of Scholarships: 2 years (for 10 months in a year) (Total 20 Months)

Number of Scholarships per year: 1200

It is expected from the University/PG College/Institution where such students have taken admission in first year of PG Course during academic session 2008-10 that no tuition fee will be charged from such girls should they decide to pursue their Master’s Degree in university & colleges covered under 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act.

Other Conditions:

The scheme is for non-professional courses only at P.G. level. The scheme is applicable to such students who have taken admissions in regular, full-time Master Degree course in any recognized University/Institution or a Post Graduate College. Distance mode of education is not covered.

A student who is awarded this Indira Gandhi Post-Graduate scholarship will not be debarred from accepting any other scholarship.

A student desirous of leaving the studies mid-way without completing the PG degree will have to take prior approval from the UGC by submitting an application along with justification through the concerned University/ College/Institution. Any student who discontinues the studies without prior approval of the UGC will have to refund the whole amount and the concerned institution will be responsible for this refund.

The University/College/Institution has to submit a certificate of completion of the PG Course in respect of each student availing this scholarship.

Affidavit on Rs.50/- Stamp Paper from SDM/First Class Magistrate/ Gazetted Officers (not below the rank of Tehsildar) conforming that she is the only child in her family without having any brother.

Documents to be submitted at the time of application:

a) Application in prescribed format.

b) Proof of admission to Ist Year Master`s degree course in a recognized Indian University/College/Institution.

c) Joining Report from the institution where the candidate has taken admission for PG Course (Annexure-I).

d) An affidavit Rs.50/- Stamp Paper from the parents/girl duly attested by the SDM/First Class Magistrate/Gazetted officer (not below the rank of Tehsildar) copying the same language mentioned at(Annexure-II).

e) Matriculation Certificate.

Procedure for application:

Eligible students who are pursuing postgraduate 1st year course in the current year i.e. 2009-2010 may submit their applications for this scholarship in the prescribed format with relevant attested copies of all documents.

The application may be submitted to Mr. Satish Ahuja, Under Secretary (SA-III), University Grants Commission, Bahadurshah Zafar Marg, New Delhi-110002 within 30 days from the date of publication of this advertisement in Newspapers.

Application received after the due date will not be considered. Those who had applied earlier need not to apply afresh in response to this advertisement, if they had taken PG admission in the year 2009-2010.

Applications are invited for the award of Commonwealth Split-site Doctoral Scholarship only for the academic year 2010 offered by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom.

Scholarships are available in all disciplines including Medicine
and Dentistry.


Eligibility

Citizenship and Residency : Candidates should be citizen of India.

Qualification Requirement : Hold by 1st October 2010, a first degree of upper second class Honours standard (or above) or a second class degree and a relevant postgraduate qualification which will normally be a Master`s degree AND in the fields of medicine and dentistry, have qualified between 1 October 2000 and 1 October 2005.

Duration : 12 months period of study or two six months periods.

Effective date of award : The scholarship will commence from September / October 2010 in UK.

Commonwealth Scholarship And Fellowship Plan – 2010 – U.K.

Applications are invited from Indian nationals either through http://www.education.nic.in/ or on plain paper in the FORMAT GIVEN BELOW for nominations from India for the award of Commonwealth Scholarship tenable in United Kingdom from October 2010 for higher studies/research/specialized training in the subject mentioned below in the United Kingdom. Up to Sixty (60) nominations are to be sent to the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission for final selection to be made by them. Out of these not more than 35 (thirty five) are for one year Master’s Degree Course/Six months clinical training and twenty five (25) are for three year’s Ph.D. Course and 1 year Research on Split-Site basis.

ELIGIBILITY

The candidate should not be more than 40 years of age as on 15.10.2009 and fulfill the minimum qualifications as per Para (IV) below.

LEVEL OF COURSE

These scholarships will be awarded for studies leading to either: -

(1) Six Month Clinical Training/Research/Specialisation (For MBBS, BDS,MS, MD degree holders only)

1. Cancer Research 2. Cardiology (including Cardiac Surgery) 3. Gynaecology 4. Medicine and 5. Dentistry. 6. Orthopedics 7. Neurology and 8. ENT.

(2) (i) One Year Taught Master’s Courses Or Equivalent Degree, (Ii) Three Years Doctoral Degree (Iii) One Year Research On A Split Site Basis, Towards a Ph. D. Registered at a university in home country:

(A) ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY:

1. Electronics/Electrical 2. Environmental Studies 3. Remote Sensing Technology 4. Communication Engineering 5. Biotechnology or Biochemical Engineering 6. Robotics (including Artificial Intelligence) 7. Computer Applications/Computer Science 8. Aerospace Engg./ Aeronautics 9. Civil Engg. 10. Material Science 11. Marine Engg. and 12. Mining Engg.

(B) SCIENCE (PURE AND APPLIED)

1. Mathematics 2. Molecular Biology 3. Physics and 4. Chemistry (including Pharmaceutical/Medicinal Chemistry).

(C) AGRICULTURE : 1. Agronomy & Forestry.

(D) HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES

1. Sociology 2. Management Studies 3. Economics 4. Psychology 5. Law 6. English (Literature/Linguistics) 7. History 8. Philosophy and 9. Political Science with International Relations

Candidates who have already completed Ph.D. or are about to complete it will not be considered.

(IV) MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The candidates must have completed tertiary education in English Medium :-

(A) For Master’s Degree Or Six Months Clinical Training/ Research

One should hold or able to produce the certificate of Bachelor’s Degree by 31st August 2010 in the subject field concerned (indicated above) securing 60% or above marks in Humanities and Social Science group and 65% or above marks in Medical, Engineering and Technology, Science and Agriculture Group. Candidate should give one page academic justification for pursuing the course in U.K.

Candidates who wish to undertake postgraduate study in Business and/or Management should before applying for a Commonwealth Scholarship, have taken the Graduate Management Admission Test (Princeton Test). Applicants for level of course at ‘1’ in Para III above whose programme requires them to practice clinically, or to work in a laboratory department reporting on samples from patients, can be considered only if they are eligible for registration with the General Medical Council or the General Dental Council. Candidates whose native language is not English will be required to provide evidence that they have sufficient competence in English to practice Medicine or Dentistry in the United Kingdom. Nominated candidates will be required to take the IELTS, for which they may contact local British Council Office.

(B) FOR Ph.D. DEGREE:-

One should hold or able to produce the certificate of Master’s Degree by 31st August 2010 in the concerned subject fields (indicated above) securing 60% or above marks in Humanities and Social Science group and 65% or above marks in the relevant subjects in Medical, Engineering and Technology, Science and Agriculture group.

V. VALUE OF AWARD

Each scholarship provides: -

(A) Student concessionary or other approved air fare to the United Kingdom by the most direct and economical route and return on expiry of the scholarship (the cost of journey made before receipt of award will not normally be reimbursed nor can fares be paid for a scholar’s dependents).

(B) Approved tuition and examination fees.

(C) A personal maintenance allowance payable monthly.

(D) A grant for books and apparatus in the first year of study and for a subsequent full year also; and a grant towards the expenses preparing a thesis of dissertation, where applicable;

(E) A grant for expenses of approved travel within the U.K.

(F) An initial clothing grant for most scholars on first arrival from tropical developing countries;

(G) Where a host institution has in advance declared and the Commission has accepted, the need for fieldwork outside the United Kingdom, a grant towards the cost of such fieldwork, which shall not normally exceed one economy and tourist class return fare to the fieldwork location. Scholars for whom fieldwork fares are provided to their home country shall not be entitled to a mid – term homeward fare;

(H) For married scholars selected by the Commission for awards exceeding 12 months, a marriage allowance per mensem is payable provided that the husband and wife are residing together at the same address in the United Kingdom. It is not paid when a husband or wife of the scholars is also in receipt of an award, or is in paid employment. For such married couples accompanied by their children, a child allowance is payable for the first, second and third child under the age of 16 provided they are residing with their parents. A scholar who is unaccompanied by spouse but accompanied by children for whom he/she is legally responsible, shall receive the equivalent of the spouse’s allowance for the first child, and child allowances for the second and third child, irrespective of the length of tenure of award.

Scholar’s emoluments are not subject to United Kingdom income tax, but holders and their spouses may be liable for the payment at least in part of any Council tax levied by the local authority where they live.

(B) For those applying through the online, hard copy application alongwith supporting documents should be submitted by 20th October 2009.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS :

1. A candidate may apply for only one subject of his/her choice.

2. As a condition of award, the Commission or a host institution in Britain may also require a candidate to take particular English Tests and/or training in English.

3. The final selection of the nominated candidates rests with the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in U.K.

4. Nomination of a candidate by Government of India does not guarantee final selection or placement. The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission will make its own selection out of overall nominees recommended by all the participating countries in the programme.

5. Mere fulfillment of minimum requirements as laid down in the advertisement does not qualify a candidate for interview. Interview letters are sent only to a limited number of candidates after their applications are examined by the Committee of Experts.

6. Application must be accompanied by attested copies of certificates regarding date of birth, diplomas, degrees, mark sheets in respect of all the examination passed alongwith experience certificate of Employment (if any) and one copy of recently taken passport size photograph with signature (to be pasted on application form). Self attested certificates will not be accepted.

7. Applicants already holding a Doctoral Degree or about to obtain will not be considered. Candidates who have already done a Ph.D. in India or abroad are not considered.

8. Candidates who have already been abroad for studies/ training/ specialization either on scholarships or on their own, for a period exceeding six months are eligible to apply if they have been in India for at least two consecutive years after returning from abroad as on 15.10.2009. Applications of candidates who are already abroad will not be considered.

9. In case of candidates qualifying from Universities, where grades are awarded, the candidates are required to furnish exact percentage of marks and indicate the conversion formula.

10. Candidates will be expected to have some knowledge of India and of the donor country.

11. Candidates who are employed must apply through their employers. Candidates belonging to the All India Services should send their applications through their Cadre Controlling Authority. No Objection Certificate from Employer should invariably be submitted on or before the time of interview. Otherwise candidates will not be allowed to appear for interview.

12. It is very important that applicants who are in employment to which they wish to return after completion of their studies in UK should have an assurance from their Organisation that if their nomination is successful, they will be granted sufficient leave of absence. In general, a candidate undertaking research for a Ph.D. can be expected to need 36 months study in the United Kingdom even though in the first instance, the award will only be offered for one or two years.

13. While indicating the period of past experience and stay abroad, candidates should mention the specific dates.

14. As these scholarships are offered by Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in UK the applications should be submitted in English only.

15. Applications in subject-fields other than those specified in the advertisement will not be considered.

16. Candidates who do not possess the essential qualification need not apply.

17. Candidates must furnish a clear and precise programme of study/ research (minimum 500 words) justifying that their study/research can be carried out in the United Kingdom. Candidates are advised to describe their plan for study/research proposals carefully as these will be a primary condition in selection both PG/Ph.D course.

18. Incomplete applications and applications received after the stipulated date will not be considered and no correspondence will be entertained.

19. Documents submitted along with the application will not be returned. Hence, candidates are advised to send only attested copies of the certificates.
