British Chevening Scholarships The Chevening Scholarship scheme offers exceptional Indian candidates the opportunity to undertake postgraduate study at leading universities in the UK. It is aimed at future leaders, opinion formers and decision-makers.
Eligibility Criteria - Indian national with a valid Indian passport
- for Masters (Open) Scholarships 21-35 years
- for the Chevening Gurukul Scholarships 28-40 years
- if applying for the Masters course at a UK institution, the course should not be more than 12 months
- fluency in written and spoken English
Please remember, you are not eligible, if you - have already started a course in the UK at the time of application
- have in the past received a British Government funded scholarship
- work for the British Government (including the British Council)
- apply from another country
- are seeking military training (though military personnel can take academic course at civilian institutions)
- are applying for part time courses
- are applying for distance learning
- wish to study a course of more than 12 months in duration
- wish to study undergraduate degrees
Additional Eligibility Criteria - Candidate should ideally have at least 2-3 years of relevant work experience in the selected field of study.
- Recent graduates must be able to demonstrate exceptional leadership experience through either academic or extra curricular activities.
About the Programme - These scholarships are available for applicants wishing to study a one year Masters course in the UK. This scheme is not tied to any UK institution.
- . Applicants must identify the course they wish to follow and the UK Institution they wish to attend. It is the responsibility of the applicant to apply directly to the UK Institution(s) of their choice (up to three) for admission before they apply for a Chevening scholarship. You are required to provide evidence/ information on the status of your application to the UK University (s).
- You should apply for a masters course that falls broadly within the priority subject areas, such as:
- Economic Governance, Finance and Public Administration
- Sustainable Development
- Science and Innovation
In exceptional cases, applications for other courses can also be considered. Chevening Scholarships seek to support studies in areas related to tackling major global issues. It’s also expected that Chevening scholars will return to India to make a difference on these issues. Eligibility
Applicants for this programme should be outstanding professionals from any field, able to demonstrate leadership in their chosen field or profession (to be assessed from the personal statement provided with the application form and the references). Applicants must have at least five years of relevant work experience in their chosen field. They should also have excellent proficiency in English and be computer literate.

Award’s details
Applicants must be able to pay tuition fees at the full international (i.e. not the EU/UK) rate. Selection of candidates is based solely on academic merit and research potential.
