Unlike in Indiawhere students undergo twelve years of pre-university education, in the UKstudents undergo thirteen years of pre-university education. Therefore, thefirst year of an Indian degree programme is usually required for direct entryinto an undergraduate programme in UK. Outstanding marks from one ofthe two Central Boards (CBSE or ICSE) or their equivalent, can, however alsoguarantees a place in the colleges of the UK. For those who do not, yet, havethese qualifications, there is a range of access or foundation coursesavailable. Foundation courses range from four months to a year and are oftenavailed by students to enter a university.
