Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University

Introduction

Dr.Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, was established by an Act of Govt.of Uttar Pradesh in 2005, and came into being, to meet up the new challenges in legal fields and to strengthen the vision that was given by the establishment first National Law School of the country. Originally incorporated as ‘Dr.Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law Institute, Uttar Pradesh’ word ‘Institute’ was substituted by the ‘University’ later. This was done to give a comprehensive national character to the Institute on lines with the other premier National Law Universities of the Country.

RMLNLU offers a five year B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) integrated program and a two year LL.M. program – admission to which is made on the basis of an all India entrance examination called Common Law Admission Test (CLAT).

Eligibility


(i) A candidate for admission to the above program must have passed the Higher Secondary School Examination (10+2) or an examination equivalent thereof, securing in aggregate not less than 50% in all the core subjects and English put together.
(ii) He/she must not have completed 20 years of age as on 1st July of the year of admission. In the case of candidates belonging to SC/ST the age limit will be 22 years as on 1st July.
Intake Capacity: The intake capacity of B.A., LL.B.(Hons.) degree programme shall be 160 with following breakup:

  • Horizontal Reservation
  • Persons With Disability (PWD): 3%
  • Dependants of Freedom Fighters of Utter Pradesh: 2%


Program:  LL.M.


Eligibility: A candidate should have secured a LL.B. degree or its equivalent from a recognized University, having obtained not less than 50% marks in the aggregate. Candidates in the final year of their LL.B. course can also apply but their admission would be confirmed only after they submit LL.B. results with the required 50% marks in aggregate.

The RMLNLU follows a semester system where under the academic year is divided into two parts and six subjects are taught in each semester, up till the 8th semester, and five subjects each in 9th and 10th semester. As a result, a student would have studied fifty eight subjects when he/she completes the five year course (B.A., LL.B.). The wide spread of subjects helps a student to acquire extensive and intensive knowledge of the legal system.

The LL.M. program also follows a semester system where an academic year is divided into two parts. The first three semesters include the subjects as prescribed by the university and the fourth semester will be devoted to Constitutional and Legal Law and writing a dissertation.
