Dr. D. C. Pavate Memorial Visiting Fellowship 2016

This award was instituted in honour of Dr Dadappa Chintappa Pavate, who was awarded the Padma Bhusan in 1967. Dr Pavate has held the position as the vice-chancellor of Karnatak University in Dharwad as well the governorship of Punjab. In 1999, the Dr. D.C. Pavate Foundation collaborated with Karnatak University, and Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, to offer visiting fellowships every year to candidates who want to pursue various specializations offered at the prestigious University of Cambridge.

Dr. D. C. Pavate Memorial Visiting Fellowship 2016

Three fellowships are offered under different faculties for a total period of four months from January each year. The fellowships will include economy class return airfare, a stipend of 3500 pounds and the appropriate academic fees.

The three fellowships will be offered at the following departments of the University of Cambridge:

  • The Centre of International Studies / Department of Politics and International Studies: This fellowship is offered on an all-India basis and will be effective from September, 2016. Candidates must hold a good academic record in the areas of history, political science or international relations, international economics, international law, or military affairs.
  • Judge Business School, Cambridge: This is offered to candidates from Karnataka with a good academic record and interest in any aspect of Indian business and management and will be effective from May, 2016.
  • The Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics / Department of Material Sciences and Metallurgy / Department of Chemistry / Department of Zoology: Karnataka candidates with a good academic record in the areas of mathematics and theoretical physics, material sciences and metallurgy, or chemistry and zoology will be considered. This  fellowship will be effective from January 2016.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the D. C. Pavate Memorial Visiting Fellowship, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Be below the age of 40 years as on January 1 of the academic year
  • Secured a Ph.D. or a masters degree or equivalent with a minimum of first class
  • For fellowships valid for Karnataka candidates: A Karnataka candidate is any person who has studied at an educational institution in Karnataka or been employed in Karnataka for a minimum of 5 years continuously

Candidates are selected at the discretion of the concerned departments where the fellowships are being offered.
