Indian School of Mines (ISM) is a premier institution of international repute. The Department of Management Studies of the School launched its MBA program in 1997. The erstwhile Department of Industrial Engineering and Management (IE&M) was restructured and re-christened as Department of Management Studies.
Having run the M.Tech program of IE&M for two full decades, the requisite experience as well as expertise was available with the department to run the MBA program.
Since its inception, Department of Management Studies, Indian School of Mines has been moving ahead, continuously in tandem with the growth and diversification in the business field maintaining constant interaction with various industries.
To its credit, the department has successfully completed several consultancy assignments, in-house and off-campus executive development programs and specific research projects supported by AICTE, UGC, ICSSR, MHRD, CIL, World Bank etc.
The department has been constantly rated as A/A+ institute by the various rating agencies including AIMA-Business Standard, Business India, The Telegraph (Careergraph) etc. in their B-School surveys conducted from time to time. We have crossed these milestones in a period of just seven years.
Apart from the above, the Faculty and the students have won laurels for the School by their different curricular activities. ISM has launched its AICTE approved MBA program under the Department of Management Studies in 1997.

ISM Dhanbad 2012 MBA Program
The Department of Management Studies, Indian School of Mines University has only registered upward growth since its inception in 1997. The Department has a Training and Placement cell headed by a placement adviser working under the overall supervision of the Head of Department.
The cell is instrumental in organizing Training and Placement for the students of MBA. ISM Dhanbad offers the following program in management:
M.B.A (Master of Business Administration)
The MBA program is a two-year full time course. Each academic year is divided into two semesters. In the first year, students are exposed to core courses consisting of certain basic and functional areas of management.
In the summer vacation at the end of first year, students are required to spend approximately eight weeks in an organization, doing a project on some significant aspect or problem of management.
In the second year, besides completing the remaining core courses, students pursue elective courses in two of the following areas of interest such as Marketing, Finance, Human Resource and Operations Management.
Each student has to choose two elective courses from one area of specialization and one elective course from the second area of specialization in the third semester. In the fourth semester the pattern is reversed.
Eligibility Criteria For ISM Dhanbad MBA 2012
For getting enrolled in the MBA program in the Department of Management Studies, Indian School of Mines, one has to fulfill the following eligibility conditions:
- A Bachelor’s degree after (10+2) in any discipline from a recognized institution, with at least 50% marks in aggregate or equivalent CGPA {45% in case of candidates belonging to SC, ST and DA (Differently Abled Categories*)}.
- For Honours graduates the aggregate will include marks of both Honours and Pass Papers. Candidates appearing for the final bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification examination can also apply.
Admission Procedure For ISM Dhanbad MBA 2012
If you are seeking admission to Indian School of Mines University, Dhanbad, you need to go through a two stage admission process:
- It is essential for all applicants to appear for CAT for admission to the two year full time MBA course in ISM.
- Candidates short-listed on the basis of CAT score are called for Group Discussion and Interview for final selection.
A selected candidate who fails to take admission by the last date may loose his/her claim and seat may be offered to the wait-listed candidates. On the last date of the admission – after 12 Noon, the seats may be offered on ‘first come first serve’ basis to wait listed candidates. Fees once paid are not refundable.
Note:
1. Applicant shall have to appear CAT – 2011. Once they receive the CAT 2011 scores, they have to apply online at the Application Submission System available at the institute website – http://www.ismdhanbad.ac.in.
2. The institute will not issue any letter to any candidate regarding attending GD/PI as well as selection to the Program. The candidates must consult institute’s website (www.ismdhanbad.ac.in) regularly in this regard or for any updates, if any.

The CAT application form and bulletin issued by IIMs can be obtained from select branches of State Bank of India.
- Applicant shall have to appear CAT – 2011. Once they receive the CAT 2011 scores, they have to Apply Online at the Application Submission System available at the institute website http://www.ismdhanbad.ac.in.
- Application fee of Rs. 1500/- (Rs.750/- for SC and ST candidates) shall be paid through a Demand Draft drawn in favour of Registrar, Indian School of Mines and payable at Dhanbad, and should be submitted along with a print out of the filled-in online application form and necessary documents to the Assistant Registrar (Academic), Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad – 828206, Jharkhand.
