Automobile engineering is derived from mechanical engineering. More specifically, it is the branch of engineering that deals with the design, development, manufacturing, production, testing, repairing, control and management of automobiles. It is a combination of different elements of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, electronic engineering, software engineering and safety engineering.

The design of engines, procedures involving the production of cars, and fuel management are the key application areas. There may be a need for specialized training to become a competent and qualified vehicle engineer.

An automobile engineer’s main responsibilities include designing, developing, building, and testing vehicles from the conceptual stage to the production stage. There are numerous areas of specialty within it, including engine systems, fluid mechanics, aerodynamics, supply chain management, thermodynamics, and electronics and control systems.

It is crucial to comprehend internal combustion engines, vehicle chassis mechanisms, electrical systems, workshop technologies, motor transport issues, and research and design.

In the production of cars, motorbikes, vans, and other commercial vehicles, automotive engineers might take on a variety of tasks in design, manufacture, distribution, marketing, sales, and after-sales service. The majority of employers for automotive engineers are automakers, but there are also tyre manufacturers, specialized vehicle design firms, research and testing facilities, motorsports organizations, and oil and fuel businesses. Another choice is to work for oneself as a consultant or contractor, albeit this may need several years of relevant experience.
