The branch of Physics which deals with the study involving emission, behaviour, and effects of electrons and with electronic devices is known as Electronics. The study uses various devices such as semiconductors, resistors, inductors, capacitors, nano-structures, and vacuum tubes etc. All applications of electronics involve the transmission of either information or power.
Electronics Science and Electronics Engineering are different. The former only study the theoretical concept while the later apply it practically by designing and constructing electronic circuits etc. Electronics have wide application in our day to day life.
In India, all major universities offer courses in Electronic Science both at graduation and post-graduation level. The minimum eligibility for B.Sc Electronics is + 2 Science with Physics, Chemistry and Maths and for M.Sc in Electronics, one should have completed his/her graduation with Physics or Electronics as the main subject.
Electronics has great relevance to industries, giving excellent career opportunities especially in high technology manufacturing industries. Students after completing graduation or post graduation in Electronics Science can enter either into the electronic industries such as control engineering, electronic design, computer-hardware and computer network or into the business world where the knowledge of fundamental physics and electronics are needed. Some can also take the option to study further and carry out research in the field.
Successful graduates can also join junior executive position in electronic chip making industry, computer hardware industry, and consumer electronics industry or become entrepreneurs.
One can also choose teaching and research as a rewarding career. Various colleges/universities/ research labs in India and across the globe provide enormous opportunities.
In India, individuals with post-graduation in Electronics are absorbed in Central Government organizations like Electronics Corporation of India Limited, Bharat Electronics Limited etc. The average salary of electronics graduates varies between Rs 15, 000 – Rs 25, 000.
Job opportunities are also there in various electronic industries located across the globe. Candidates having essential qualification, skills and experience get handsome salary in addition to other perks and benefits.
