Race to DU begins: Admissions open for 71,000 undergrad seats

Students can apply for admission to undergraduate courses at Delhi University (DU) through the official website, admission.uod.ac.in. Admissions will be based on the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for Undergraduates (UG) 2023.

Delhi University has officially started the admission process for the 2023-24 academic year. The admission procedure covers undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD courses. The Vice-Chancellor, Yogesh Singh, mentioned that the new session is expected to commence on August 16. To streamline the admission process, the university has launched the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) admission portal. The process will be divided into two phases: registration and seat allocation based on the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) results.

For undergraduate programs, there are approximately 71,000 seats available across 68 colleges, offering 78 undergraduate programs and 198 BA Program combinations. CUET scores will play a crucial role in determining admission to these programs. BCom (Hons) and BCom emerged as the most sought-after courses during the previous CUET, with an overwhelming number of students expressing interest in both. Delhi University considers BCom as its flagship program due to its high demand among students.

Postgraduate admissions will also be conducted through the CSAS admission portal, with selection based on CUET-PG 2023 scores. The university offers a total of 13,500 PG seats across 77 programs in 58 departments.

Delhi University is offering PhD admissions in 51 programs, and the registration process will commence in the last week of June. Notably, the university has revised its admission policy to account for potential withdrawals during the academic session. In colleges where withdrawals were less than 5% last year, an additional 10% of students will be admitted. However, in colleges with more than 5% withdrawals, the university will admit an additional 20% of students.

There are two platforms for admission: UGC NET and CUET. However, all candidates will be required to appear for an interview. The registration fee for general category candidates is Rs 750 and Rs 300 for SC/ST/OBC candidates.

This year marks the continuation of Delhi University’s transition from cutoff-based admissions to an entrance test-based admission system. The university adopted this change last year, moving away from admissions solely based on class XII marks. In the final year of cutoff-based admissions in 2021, 10 programs across colleges had set a 100% cutoff, indicating the competitive nature of the process.
