Shivaji University was founded in 1962. University was recognized by UGC & accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) Bangalore, with B+. The Shivaji University, Centre for Distance Education of the university was recognized by Distance Education Council, New Delhi.
It offers various Undergraduate & postgraduate distance education courses in diverse disciplines. Courses are mainly offered under ten major faculties of Arts, Social Science, Science, Commerce, Education, Fine Arts, Law, Medicine, Ayurvedic Medicine, Engineering and Technology.

The University Center of Distance Education has study centers located at only three districts in Maharashtra, namely, Kolhapur, Satara and Sangli. The University’s CDE provides Self-Instructional learning Materials for imparting lessons. Apart from learning materials, Contact sessions are also conducted in affiliated colleges (study centres) of CDE Shivaji University, Kolhapur.

Following are the objectives of the University instituted for the Center of Distance Learning:
- To provide educational opportunities
- To more number of students from the eligible age group than is possible today
- To different sections of the society, who are for some reason unable to pursue education, and bring them into the main stream
- To the female class of the society who have remained deprived because of domestic responsibilities and social restrictions
- To the working class who choose to study at their own place and pace
- To all sections of the society irrespective of caste, religion,gender, area of origin ,social and financial status etc. at affordable costs
- To offer courses of study along with Self Instructional Material, contact sessions, counselling facilities, library & internet facilities through designated Study Centres.

Shivaji University Contact Details
The test contains 180 questions spread over 6 sections. In the paper based test, each section is timed separately, whereas there’s no such requirement for the online test. Total duration of the test is 3 hours. A negative score of 0.25 point would be given for every incorrect answer. Correct answers would be awarded one point each.
