Junior Commissioned Officer Caterer Career

Joining the Indian Defence Services has always symbolized a dignified, disciplined and prestigious life for many youngsters. The recruitment into the Army as a Junior Commissioned Officer (Catering) is based on many parameters.

All male citizens, regardless of their origin and background, may be inducted into the Army, so long as they meet the minimum eligibility criteria set down for age, education and health.

Recruitment is held year round through an open rally system by Zonal Recruiting Officers and BROs (Branch Recruitment Offices), who put out an advertisement in local papers two weeks prior to the rally.
The prospective Junior Commissioned Officer (Catering)should look for recruitment advertisements in the local dailies and should carry with them the required documents to the venue.

Junior Commissioned Officer (Catering) Eligibility

Age 21-27 years

Educational Qualifications– 10+2, Diploma/Certificate Course of a duration of one year or more in Cookery/ Hotel Management and Catering Tech. recognized by AICTE.

Physical Requirements- A minimum height of 165-170 cms depending upon the region from where the candidate belongs with an appropriate weight (48-50kg again depending on the region) and chest measurements of at least 77cm. For details refer to website indianarmy.nic.in.

Medical Requirements –

To be eligible for the post of Junior Commissioned Officer (Catering) in the Army, the candidate must be:

    • Mentally and physically strong, with a minimum chest expansion of 5cm.
    • Auditory ability ought to be good in each ear
    • Binocular sight should be 6/6. 
    • Colour vision should be CP-III, with ability to differentiate red and green.
    • Should have 14 dental points, healthy gums and teeth.

No physical deformities or debilitating diseases

Physical Fitness Tests(PFT): To determine the Physical Fitness, the following tests carrying 100 marks are held:-

    • 1-Mile Run
    • Pull Ups
    • Balance
    • 9 Feet Ditch

Marking system is as follows

(a) 1 MILE RUN

    • 5.40 Mins and below 60 Mks
    • 5.41 Mins to 5.50 48 Mks
    • 5.51 Mins to 6 .05 36 Mks
    • 6.06 Mins to 6.20 24 Mks

(b) PULL UPS

    • 10 and above 40 Mks
    • 9 33 Mks
    • 8 27 Mks
    • 7 21 Mks
    • 6 16 Mks

(c) BALANCE should be qualified and no marks are awarded.

(d) 9 Feet Ditch Should be qualified and no marks are awarded Written Exam Common Entrance Examination (CEE) is conducted on the last Sunday of each month for recruitment.

Candidates must also pass a written Common Entrance Examination (CEE) conducted on the last Sunday of every month. 

    • Paper 1: (60 minutes) measures IQ, GK, and numerical ability. The passing marks are 32 out of 100. 
    • Paper 2: (30 minutes) tests proficiency in Math, English, and Computer Science. Passing marks of 20 out of 150 is required.
