A 17 year old girl was found hanging in a hostel room by a staff member in the Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu. This is the second suicide case this month.
A class 12 student from Sacred Heart Girls Higher Secondary School, a government-supported missionary school in Kilachery, Tiruvallur district, 50 kilometers from Chennai, was discovered dead inside the hostel on Monday, July 25. The police suspect it to be a case of suicide.
The girl was found hanging by a staff member of the school. The girl’s body was reportedly sent to a government hospital in Tiruvallur by the police for a postmortem examination. Further investigations are underway.
“The girl told her friends Monday morning that she would be late to school. After an hour, she hadn’t arrived at school, so staff members went to check her hostel room. They found her hanging from the ceiling, “police said.
Tensions in the neighbourhood have been raised by the death of the 17-year-old student. On Monday, the deceased’s relatives and other villagers in Thekkalur blocked a road leading to the school. The police were forced by the protest to hire more officers to help with security in and around the village and school.
This is the second such case in the last 2 weeks. Another student, on July 13, 2022, was found dead at the school in Tamil Nadu’ Kallakurichi district.
