Upper casteism in Indian Institutes: 9 IIMs Violated Ph.D. reservation norms, Said IIT Bombay

New Delhi: IIT Bombay revealed that In the last five years total of 9 Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) have been violating the norms for 5 admissions. The data is collected from the RTI filed by students collectively at AAPSC.

From 2018 to 2022, A total of 188 students from Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Other Backward Caste (OBC) categories are denied to have admission In the last five years, as per RTI data.

In these 9 IIMs, A Majority 76.1% are from general categories which include the Economic weaker section (EWS), and only 5.4 percent SC students, 1.8 percent ST and 16.7 percent OBC students got admission. As per the data shared by the IIT Bombay student collective.

As per IIM reservation norms, 110 seats are reserved for SC, 55 for ST, and 199 for the OBC category. But unfortunately, only 40 SC, 13 ST, and 123 OBC students were admitted to the IIMs between 2018 to 2022.

Tagging the Union education minister and NCBC, these IIT students tweeted “188 Dalit Adivasi students were denied their rights in the last 5 years.

And as per IIM admission norms, 27% of the seats are reserved for NC-OBC, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST candidates, 5% for  (PwD) Persons with Benchmark Disabilities, and up to 10% for (EWS) Economically Weaker Sections.

And the same situation happened at IIT Bombay in 2021 where only 2.5% of ST students got admission as per Lok Sabha.
