Education Minister Says There Is No Proposal To Merge NEET, JEE Main, CUET

Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan, while interacting with the students in Kota, said that there isn’t any proposal for merging the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET), Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main), and Common University Entrance Test (CUET).

He further clarified the UGC’s recent proposal that plans to merge the NEET, JEE Main, and CUET exams. He said that the ministry isn’t considering any such proposal of introducing an integrated exam. He asked students to continue preparing for the exam without taking on any more stress.

UGC chairman, M Jagadesh Kumar, made an announcement stating the merger of NEET, JEE Main, and CUET. The announcement had mixed reactions. Many students raised concerns regarding the same. There was also a ‘combined symbolic protest’ organized at Jantar Mantar, Delhi, by students because of the problems they faced during the CUET, JEE Main, and NEET exam. The students demanded extra attempts.

In reaction to the news of the merging of the exams, many students took to Twitter to express their concern. Some believe that idea of merging these exams is senseless and only being used as a distraction to overcome the blunder done by NTA. 

The UGC chairman, while proposing the merger, said that by merging the three entrance exams, they aim to decrease the burden on students. They won’t have to appear in multiple exams. However, opposing the merger, several administrative issues and technical glitches faced during the CUET UG 2022, NEET 2022, and JEE Main 2022 were pointed out by students on social media.
