NEET UG 2022 Results: Fake Roll Numbers Used By NTA For Added Confidentiality

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has introduced the practice of assigning fake roll numbers to the OMR answer sheets for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2022. This has been done for the first time as NEET remains the only pen-and-paper national-level entrance test in the country. Through this, they aim to ensure that the evaluation process is confidential.

The Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) answer scripts are evaluated by software, not examiners. However, during the time when the answer sheets are fed into the computer or physically transported for evaluation, there is human intervention. This step was taken to ensure that people handling the OMR sheets don’t know who the sheet belongs to. 

Introduced after the exam has been completed, these fictitious numbers conceal the identity of the candidate. Any person handling the OMR sheet won’t be able to know the real roll number, the test centre, or the state of the candidate.

The NTA announced the NEET-UG results on 7th September. Students can visit the official website of NEET to check their results. In NEET 2022, 18.72 lakh students registered for the entrance test. Out of this, 95% appeared for the exam, conducted on 17th July. The exam was conducted in 3,570 centres across 497 cities in India and 14 cities abroad.
