IIT launches new courses

The Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, has recently introduced a BTech programme in energy science and engineering. This programme introduces students to the engineering skills and fundamental knowledge required to work in today’s energy industry. In addition to IIT Guwahati, IIT Delhi has been offering the course since 2021.

Course structure for BTech in energy science and engineering

Energy engineering is an interdisciplinary discipline by definition. The course will provide students with relevant knowledge and skills such as assessing and characterising various energy resources, designing and developing various energy technologies and systems, choosing appropriate technologies from a variety of alternatives, and contributing to the transition to a low-carbon economy.

BTech in energy science and engineering – Eligibility criteria 

The admission to the BTech in energy science and engineering will be done on the basis of marks secured by candidates in JEE Advanced, personal interview round, and overall admission scores. The final selection of candidates for admission seats will be done through the final merit list released by the institute.

BTech in energy science and engineering – Course fees

The tuition fee for the BTech course for general, EWS and OBC category candidates is Rs 1,52,150 while  Rs 85,483 for OEB category candidates. There is no tuition fee for students belonging to SC/ST category.

BTech in energy science and engineering – Prospects for a Career

Graduates of energy science and engineering programmes can find work in the oil and gas industry, energy production companies, or government and university research. With experience, they can advance to positions in planning, policy development, or freelance consulting.
