With biotechnology emerging as one of the hot career options today, the CBSE has introduced a course for class 11 and class 12 students for the same. The objectives of teaching this course include: familiarizing the learners to understand the relationship of the subject to health, nutrition, environment, agriculture and industry, acquainting students with different applications of Biotechnology in everyday life.

Furthermore, developments in recombinant DNA technology have yielded numerous new useful products in the fields of healthcare and agriculture, which is also taught at the CBSE class 12 level.
