Indian Navy Dockyard Apprentices Exams is carried out by the Navy for unmarried Indian male citizens. It is generally held twice a year for courses commencing in August/September and February/March respectively.
This examination is generally held twice a year in the months of June and December. The initial basic training is given at Naval Dockyard School, Mumbai. This is followed by further training at various Naval Establishments all over the country.
Selected sailors are also sent abroad for training in specific disciplines. Prior to release from service sailors are also given pre-release courses to enable them to settle down in civil life. Sailors in the Navy are liable to serve anywhere in India, on board ships and Submarines or abroad as ordered by the concerned authorities.
Age: 14 to 19 years of age. Relaxable by 5 years for SC/ST candidates.
Educational Qualification: Matric or equivalent, preferably with Science (8th pass for Welders, Riggers and Shipwright-wood only).
Physical Standards:Â Weight: 45 kg (Minimum). Height: 150 cms (Minimum) and well developed Chest, with minimum expansion of 5 cms. Eye Sight: 6/6 to 6/9 (6/9 correctable with glasses).
Screening of documents, physical measurements and Medical Examination will be carried out at BRO and those declared successful will be called for appearing in the Written Examination.
Written Examination
There will be two papers each of 100 marks and 3 hours duration.
Paper I-Mathematics;
Paper II-General Knowledge and General Science.
Those who qualify the Written Test are called for Interview. Based on the performance of the candidates in the final Interview the selected candidates will be sent for Training. The training period for most trades is three years.
Trades
Designated: Electrician, Fitter, Turner, Mechanic Diesel, Crane Operator; Welder, Rigger, Ref and Air condition Mechanic, Shipwright and Maintenance mechanic. Non-Designated: Engine Fitter, Ship Fitter, Radar Fitter, Machinery Control Fitter, Sonar Fitter, Electronic Fitter, and GT Fitter.
Allocation of Trades
The selected candidates will be allotted Trades on choice cum-merit basis.
Screening of documents, physical measurements and Medical Examination will be carried out at BRO and those declared successful will be called for appearing in the Written Examination.

The Application Form may be used or the format may be typed on plain paper as prescribed. Candidates applying for more than one entry are to submit separate applications. However, only one application form is to be filled for a particular entry.
Choice of entry is to be clearly indicated on the application form. Application sent through agent will not be accepted. Candidates applying for DE (DH) entry are to clearly indicate in their application the Branch/Trade (Electrical, Electronics and Mechanical) they are applying. The choice should be as per their specialization in three year Diploma Course.
Documents:Â The following documents are to be punched and tied firmly with a strong thread to the application in the sequence below:-
(a) Two spare recent PP size photos with the candidate’s name written on the reverse (In the absence of recent photograph candidate will not be allowed to appear in the examination).
(b) Application filled in capital letters with one recent PP size photograph pasted at the right top corner.
(c) Attested copy of Matric /equivalent certificate for verification of date of birth.
(d) Attested copy of mark sheet of Diploma/Higher Board examination/ Matriculation, as applicable.
(e) Attested copy of certificate indicating computer knowledge achieved, if any.
(f) Attested copy of other certificates viz NCC/Sports/etc.Â
(g) Two self addressed envelopes of size 22 x 10 cms with Rs 4/- stamp affixed on each to be submitted along with the application and one blank envelope with the stamp is to be brought at the time of examination.Â
Envelope:Â The Type of Entry and choice of examination Center is to be clearly written on top of the envelope containing the application.
