Ponnaiyah Ramajayam Institute of Science & Technology or PRIST University Centre for Distance Education is located in Thanjavur City of Tamil Nadu. It is planning to launch 35 innovative job oriented courses in addition to the earlier 29 courses. It has study centers located all across the country. All the courses of this Directorate are recognised by the Distance Education Council, IGNOU Government of India.

The University sends study materials for students before the commencement of PCP classes. Application and Prospectus can be obtained in person from various Permanent Spot Admission Centres and approved Study Centres  on payment of Rs. 200/- by a Demand Draft drawn in favour of PRIST UNIVERSITY, payable at Thanjavur. After checking the documents, the Directorate shall confirm Admission to the eligible candidates, assign Enrollment Number and issue Identity Card.
Students are required to keep the Identity Card in safe custody till they complete the program. The Institute provides facilities such as library & information center, computer lab, seminar hall, canteen, health care and hostel.
