The Periyar University has been named after the renowned social reformer Thanthai Periyar. It has been accredited with National Accreditation Council (NAAC) certification. Postgraduate and doctorate programs are conducted by all departments of the Periyar University.

The Periyar University established a directorate for distance education namely “Periyar Institute Of Distance Education” (PRIDE) which began in the year 2001-2002. The PRIDE offers multiple undergraduate and postgraduate courses. There are several Study Centers run by the University.

The PRIDE has study centers across Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry, in other states of India, and also at seven centers abroad. The PRIDE offers undergraduate, post graduate, certificate, diploma and professional courses through distance mode.
Courses Offered:
The university offers Maters in Arts, Commerce, Science, Education, Library and Information Management, Business Administration and Computer Applications. The university also provides many certificate courses like NGO management, Nano Science and Technology, Communication, Library and Information Science and Psychology.
