Intellectual Property and Technology Law Education has never been emphasized in the curriculum of legal education so far in our country. In the post TRIPS situation, education and research would now be shifted to Intellectual Property creation in the hubs of science and technology research. Therefore, it was decided by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, and the Board of Governors, IIT Kharagpur to accept the proposal of one of its alumni, Mr. Vinod Gupta, a leading business magnate in USA, to establish a Law School with in the domain of IIT education research and discipline.
In the IIT system, IIT Kharagpur was the first to take the leadership in technology education in the early fifties. Thereafter, IIT Kharagpur was the first technology institution to start the business management school in India in the early nineties. Naturally, in the fitness of things, IIT Kharagpur has now taken on itself the role of a leader, now in technology law education. For this purpose a full fledged law school, incubated in the Vinod Gupta School of Management, has start functioning from the academic year 2006. The School presently will has two programmes; (a) Six-Semester, Three-Year Full-Time residential LL.B. Programme leading to the Degree of Bachelor of Laws with specialization in Intellectual Property Rights, as per the requirements of the Bar Council of India. The School also offers opportunities to carry out doctoral research
The School offers Six-Semester, Three-Year Full-Time residential LL.B. Programme leading to the Degree of Bachelor of Law with specialization in Intellectual Property Rights, at par with the LL.B. Degree requirements of the Bar Council of India. The course is run on a self-financing basis

First Class Bachelors Degree in Engineering/Technology/Medicine or equivalent

First Class Masters Degree in Science or Pharmacy

Admission Procedure
Admission will be a two-step process:
The Application Form must accompany a draft of Rs.1000/- for General Category or Rs.500/- for SC/ST/PH Category drawn in favour of “IIT Kharagpur�? payable at Kharagpur and may be sent to the Deputy Registrar (Academic), IIT Kharagpur, Pin 721302.
