he Common Proficiency Test (CPT) is conducted by Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). The examination is meant for students who are already registered with the institute for the course and fulfills the eligibility criteria prescribed by the institute.
The CPT is a qualifying examination. Any student who wishes to join ICAI for Chartered Accountancy (CA) programme requires appearing in this test.
The ICAI conducts CPT examination in pursuance of Regulation 22 of the Chartered Accountants Regulations, 1988.
A student who has passed class 10th examination from any recognized board can register for Common Proficiency Test.
A student can appear for CPT examination only after clearing his 10+2 examination.
The CPT examination is a single day affair consisting of one paper. Examination for the paper is conducted in morning and evening session. The question paper structure is as follows->

The Application for Common Proficiency Test made available by the institute of chartered accountants of India every year generally in the month of November / December. The application form for examination can be obtained from the Joint Secretary (Examinations), The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, ICAI Bhawan, Indraprastha Marg, New Delhi – 110 002 on submission of requisite amount of fee.However, the outstation candidates can make the request for application form through post by submitting the application fee through Demand Draft in favor of the Joint Secretary (Examinations), The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, ICAI Bhawan, Indraprastha Marg, New Delhi – 110 002.
