MYTH: You don not need a high score on Graduate Record Examination ( GRE).

FACT: You should try to score high on the GRE. Universities differ in the weightage they give to the marks obtained in the
GRE. They consider performance in other areas too. These areas are undergraduate academic performance, relevant work experience and letters of recommendation. The GRE score is an essential part of your application. Students with a high GRE score are preferred in the competition for teaching assistantship, research awards and financial aid based on merit.

MYTH: The GRE tests the knowledge of high level difficult to understand mathematical concepts.

FACT: If you face difficulty in solving certain mathematical questions of GRE, it is because they are formulated in unique ways. The underlying concepts are simple and taught in class seventh. You do not need calculus or trigonometry to provide correct answers.

MYTH: You may perform better in the mathematical part of the GRE by mastering available methods of improvement. However your verbal ability will remain unchanged.

FACT: An improved vocabulary will improve performance in the verbal section of the GRE. If you correctly comprehend the questions and their parts then antonyms, analogies and sentence completion sections will become easy.

MYTH: All GRE questions carry equal marks.

FACT: The questions at the start of each section influence your score more than those that come later on. As you proceed, GRE determines your ability from your answers. The initial questions tell the software more about your acumen. As you conclude each section, the test is more aware of your capability. So questions towards the end have less impact on your score.
