IIT Delhi: M.Tech students started a protest against the hike in fees.

A student who is part of the protest said that they are peacefully protesting and they have not gone on a strike. They are demanding the fees be revised without impacting on their academics.

IIT Delhi fees hike

IIT Delhi M.Tech students are protesting a hike in fees for their programs this academic session. According to institute officials, the current fee was decided by the institute’s board and was implemented in January 2022.

The committee formed to review the tuition fee has given its recommendations, which are awaiting the board’s approval, said an official. In the meantime, the students have expressed their dissatisfaction with the current situation and are hoping for a more favorable outcome.

The tuition fee for M.Tech programs was Rs 10,000 per semester till last year. But as of this academic year, that has changed. The new fee structure, applicable to students admitted in 2022-2023, is Rs 25,000 per semester. Along with that, the hostel fee has increased from Rs 10,500 per semester to Rs 13,250 per semester. M.Tech students admitted in this academic year only joined the institute last month.

A first-year M.Tech student spoke out about the extreme fee hike from Rs 26,000 to Rs 53,000 per semester, saying, “The increment is too sharp. We had to accept the fees when we joined, but we are trying to challenge them. We have had meetings with the authorities, but there isn’t yet any written assurance that it will be revised.” This fee increase comes at a time when the monthly stipend for teaching assistant duties and lab work remains the same at Rs 12,400 per month. The students are feeling burdened and are working to change this unfair pricing.

Delhi university paid internship

The Delhi University is set to launch a new paid internship scheme for students of undergraduate and postgraduate courses from this academic year, in order to provide a more holistic education in line with the National Education Policy (NEP), according to officials.

The Vice Chancellor Internship Scheme (VCIS) is designed to provide training on both soft and hard skills by integrating cognitive knowledge with experiential learning, VC Yogesh Singh said. All full-time regular students of the University of Delhi studying in any course at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels will be eligible to apply for the VCIS.

The internship scheme at Delhi University is a great way for students to get some real-world experience while still studying. The scheme is available throughout the year, based on the requirements of the various departments, centers, and institutes of the university.

As per an official document, “The scheme is a unique experience in helping students broaden their mental faculties by learning skills and inculcating a sense of responsibility towards the university system. It is a method to intertwine holistic knowledge with the innovative avenues of earning while learning the nitty gritty of academics and administration.”

Speaking about the scheme, university official Rakesh Singh said, “It is a great opportunity for our students to learn new skills and gain some valuable experience. I would encourage all eligible students to apply for the scheme.”

Based on an interview, a total of 200 students will be selected for the internship program. The office of the Dean of Students’ Welfare has been entrusted with the responsibility of facilitating VCIS at Delhi University. The number of interns may be changed periodically after review and recommendation by DSW following the approval of the Vice Chancellor, officials said.

There are two types of internships under the VCIS program: a regular internship and a summer internship. The summer internship will be offered during the summer break and will last for eight weeks. Interns will work a flexible 15-20 hours per week. The regular internship, which takes place during the academic year, will also last for eight weeks with a flexible 8-10 hour work week. According to the program’s guidelines, students can avail of the VCIS program only once during their course of study at the University of Delhi. The maximum period of an internship, under any circumstances, is six months.

The regular intern will receive a stipend of Rs 5,000 per month, while the summer intern will get Rs 10,000 per month. Stipend will be enhanced by five per cent each financial year, it said. NEET PG 2022 counseling delay: Resident doctor groups threaten additional protests over delay.

NEET PG 2022 counselling delay

NEET PG 2022 counseling delay: Resident doctor groups threaten additional protests over delay.

The resident doctor groups are threatening to protest over the delay of NEET PG 2022 counselling, like last year. Read on to learn more.

NEET PG 2022 counselling delay

After the counselling for NEET-PG 2022 was postponed by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), associations of resident doctors have written to the health minister and the Director General of Health Services stating their impending protest.

In a notice dated August 29, the MCC said it was postponing the counselling to allow the National Medical Commission to issue a Letter of Permission for new post-graduate seats, an inconvenience that has forced resident doctor associations to communicate their intention to protest the matter if a resolution is not reached soon.

Also read: NEET PG 2022 Counseling is likely to start from this date.

Last December, resident doctors from medical college hospitals across India went on strike to demand the government expedite NEET-PG 2021 counseling. The counseling process only began in February this year, 8-10 weeks later than the MBBS students had demanded. They had requested that the PG examination for 2022 be delayed by this amount of time as it had been scheduled for soon after the previous year’s counselling.

The health ministry did not agree to delay the exams, saying that authorities were trying to regularize the batches that were delayed because of the pandemic. The exams were conducted as scheduled on May 21 and the results were announced within 10 days, but the process of counselling went into an indefinite halt for a long duration, with the NMC releasing a tentative schedule in the first half of August.

“We fail to understand the reasons of such procedural delays… The academic session is already delayed by almost 4-5 months; delaying it further is highly unfavorable not only for medical graduates but also for the health system of the nation,” wrote the Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association (FORDA), which had organized the protest in December, in the letter to the health minister.

The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) wrote a letter to the Director General of Health Services urging them to “expedite the process of NEET-PG counselling 2022 without further delay and to release the official counselling schedule as soon as possible.” FAIMA was a part of last year’s protest against the delays in the counselling process, and they state that history is about to repeat itself. They go on to say that the authorities are “inciting students to repeat such actions by again delaying the counselling process.”
