The rapid growth of international trade boosted by government support of this growth has generated enormous opportunities for qualified and skilled professionals to administer exports processes. Generally, export executives are inducted in global firms in various strategic functions such as  pricing, sourcing, costing, export market research, distribution, freight marketing, export finance, documentation, and foreign exchange.
Getting a foothold in this booming industry is not everyone’s cup of tea. Most of the government recognized institutes like Indian Institute of Foreign Trade and National Institute of   conduct a rigorous common entrance test that consists of questions concerning English, Business Awareness, Reasoning, General Science and Knowledge concerning global affairs.Â
Subsequently, a group discussion and interview is lined up to assess the suitability and aptitude of aspirants for the field of Export Management. Private institutes also conduct entrance tests on a similar pattern.
The minimum qualification needed to opt for Export Management courses is a graduate degree preferably in the commerce stream. Undergraduate courses such as  B.Com. and BBS or BIBF are always handy when it comes to choosing this type of profession.
There are many certificates, diplomas and bachelors courses available in this field.
One who wants to pursue a Diploma course in export management should have completed 10+2 in any stream. The selection is made on the basis of an entrance examination, though in a few cases students are selected through interview only.

An export executive needs to be knowledgeable about the global trading environment, factors responsible for it, rules and regulations and other related practical issues concerning foreign trade. Besides, an aspirant must possess an outgoing, a friendly personality, an ability to handle pressure, an ability to handle deadlines and excellent communication skills.
After successful training in export management, an export executive can find employment in: Export Department of Companies, Export Houses, Trading Houses, Star Trading Houses, Super Star Trading Houses, Export Processing Zones, and Export Oriented Units, Export Promotion Councils, Development Authorities & Commodity Boards, Cargo Clearing & Handling Agents, Marine Insurance Companies, Packaging Industries.
In this field vacancies are normally there for marketing, documentation, shipping and packaging departments of global business entities including MNCs and other international trading houses. Lastly, an export executive can always take up self employment and start his own export venture. Many Indian export executives have written their own success stories in India and abroad.
Initially as a trainee, one can start with a salary of Rs.8000-Rs.12000. One can command a higher salary as understanding increases , Generally MNCs and private companies pay higher.Â
