The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) hires assistant administrative officers (AAO) regularly for the generalist & accounts division. If you are shortlisted as an AAO, you join for a 1 year (sometimes extended to 2 years) probation/ training period during which you get familiar with the domain of insurance.Â
After working at the AAO level for around 3 years, you stand the chance to be promoted as an administrative officer (AO.)
To meet the recruitment demand, the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) conducts an annual examination.

If you’re selected for North Eastern Region and Jammu & Kashmir, you will be posted in that region only, staying their for at least 5 years. No request for transfer from the region will be considered before 5 years are completed. LIC has the authority to post or transfer the candidates anywhere in India.

Age –Â In order to be eligible for this examination you have to be over 21 years old and under 30 years of age on the 1st of April in the year of the exam. The upper age limit is relaxed for SC/ST, OBC, individuals from Short service Commission, and employees of the Life Insurance Corporation.
Educational Qualifications –
Skills and Attributes – The test is designed to evaluate the linguistic proficiency in English, numerical ability, reasoning ability and knowledge of current affairs.
Recruitment Procedure – The recruitment exam for LIC administrative officer is conducted in two parts. The first part is an online examination qualifying which, the candidates can move on to the second part, which is a personality test (personal interview).

The main duties of an LIC assistant administrative officer lie in administration, development and accounts. Other duties include policy making, policy claims, inspecting clauses in policies, and filing official returns to higher LIC administrative officers. Development administrative officers in insurance companies take on responsibilities such as marketing, meeting prospective clients, receiving contracts and endorsing the policies.
An LIC Administrative officer in accounts would typically handle the income and expenses of the company.
As an AAO, you will get a basic pay of Rs. 17240 per month in the scale of Rs. 17240- 840(14) –29000– 910(4) –32640 (Under Revision) and other admissible allowances as per rules.
Total pay at the minimum of the scale that includes House Rent Allowance & City Compensatory Allowance (wherever admissible) depending upon the classification of the city, will be approximately Rs. 38,512 per month in ‘A’ Class city.
