Netaji Subhas Open University was established in the year 1997. The University is recognized by the Distance Education Council (DEC), New Delhi. It is recognized by the University Grants Commission of India (UGC).

The University is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). It is a member of the Association of Asian Open Universities (AAOU). It is also a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU).

At present, the University has 191 study centers spread across West Bengal. Some of the activities conducted by the English Language Teaching (ELT) study centers include Personal Contact Program for MA and Diploma Programs in ELT, Face to Face sessions for improving communication skills in English, Media sessions, Special lectures in ELT, extension of Library facilities for ELT students, seminar sessions, and guest talks.

The University provides facilities like library, computer labs, auditorium, canteen, sports and games, hostel, transportation, and gym.
Courses Offered:
The university provides Ph.D and other certifications in courses like Humanities, Social Sciences, Science, Education and many professional courses. They offer PG Diploma courses in Journalism, Mass communication etc.
Admissions:
The e-Prospectus is available on the website of the University. The Form can be downloaded from the University website and at the time of submission of Admission Form, the candidate is required to pay the programme fee together with the cost of the Admission Form of Rs. 200-/.

The duly filled in admission form is to be submitted with original payment slip of bank and the self attested of all relevant documents within the specified time as announced.
