Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar is among the eight new IITs to become operational. The temporary campus for IIT Ropar is set up with all the facilities as like class rooms fitted with multimedia, faculty rooms and administrative wing. There are three hostels; two for boys and one for girls equipped with modern messing units. Faculty recruitment, creation of laboratories and other support facilities are in full swing. The Institute is operating from the transit campus at Ropar from this session and has started the classes from 18th August 2009. The Government of Punjab has provided 500 acres of land at a scenic location near the banks of Sutlej river for IIT Ropar. Appointment of consultants and architects for building the new campus has begun.
