In 2013, with the approval of the Central Government of India, the Medical Council of India (MCI) made provision for a single NEET-UG eligibility cum entrance examination, namely, the “National Eligibility cum Entrance Test” (NEET) for admission to MBBS course in each academic year. Similarly, the Dental Council of India (DCI) had also notified that admission to BDS courses in each academic year shall be through National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET).
Both the MCI & the DCI had notified that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) shall conduct NEET-UG 2022 exam for admission to the undergraduate medical courses i.e. MBBS and BDS programs.
Thus, NEET-UG 2022 (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Under Graduate courses) will be conducted at an all-India level aims to relieve the need of students to appear in multiple tests and promote merit in the admission process. NEET UG 2022 exam will allow class XII students to sit in a single entrance examination to get admission to almost all medical colleges in India, including private medical colleges.
A single merit list will be created for the MBBS and BDS seats across the country, which will show state, minorities, and SC/ST quotas.

According to the latest news from the education ministry, NEET 2022 will be conducted twice- once in February and once in May. Students can appear for any one or both the exams and the best score among the two will be considered the final score.
The exam dates will be announced shortly. The exams will be conducted in sessions, which means the students can pick a date and time of their choice to appear for the examination. The exam will be computer-based and the centers will be available for a practice session at the district as well as sub-district levels.
In 2013 NEET-UG 2022 replaced the AIPMT as the national level single entrance test for all medical aspirants in India. NEET 2022 had also replaced a lot of state-level and institute-level medical entrance exams like GGSIPU CET, DUMET, AFMC, and KEAM (Medical).
The responsibility of the CBSE is limited to the conduct of NEET-UG, declaration of NEET-UG 2022 result, and providing a merit list to the Counselling Authorities.
But after the first edition of NEET, it was canceled and again replaced by AIPMT and other state-level exams.
