The Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (BOT) aims to teach students to become professional therapists. Professional therapists help their patients overcome mental and physical disabilities so that they can become fully functioning members of society and thereby regain their social independence (both in their personal life and in the workplace). The BOT in particular focuses on various aspects of injuries and illness, such as environmental, socio-cultural, cognitive, psychological, physical and emotional ones. With a Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy in India, you can work in a variety of places, including hospitals, private practice, rehabilitation centers, early intervention centers, community health centers, etc.
The length of the program is usually four and a half years, including a six-month mandatory rotating internship. The cost and intake varies based on institution. BOT admission requirements include that applicants must be at least 17 years of age at time of admission, and complete the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC), or 10+2 exam, in the science stream. Mandatory subjects are chemistry, physics and biology/botany and zoology, with a minimum of 45 to 50 percent marks in each course. Admission requirements vary between institutions, so in order to be considered a top candidate for admission, it is also important to get a high rank in the entrance examination, and to do well in the subsequent interview.
