The three-year tailor-made online program for qualified engineers from technology companies has already enrolled over 600 working professionals and is growing in popularity. Read on to know more.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has launched an online MTech Course for working professionals who cannot attend regular classes. The online Mtech Course is very similar to executive MBA courses that allow people from the field of management to pursue educational qualifications alongside their job.
This online professional course is tailored for qualified engineers. Around 600 working professionals have already enrolled in the three-year course, instead of the regular two-year one.
The course will be held online and the projects for the course can be done at their own companies. IIT madras is the first institute to offer the MTech course for the working professionals.
The chairman of the center at IIT Madras, Prof Devendra Jalihal, said, “The students of this program have the same rights and privileges as regular students. The working professionals can carry out the project work at their workplaces. They do not need any residency as compared to sponsored candidates.”

IIT Madras has announced that their faculty, as well as teachers from other premier academic institutions and eminent industry professionals, will be conducting classes for their students. Besides regular classes, which are held in the evening, students will also have the opportunity to interact with their faculty members on a live basis. The students can take their exams in the same city as their offices.
The evaluation method for this problem statement will be done by the IIT Madras faculty. A mentor from the company will guide and help the student with their progress at their workplace. The student’s progress will be jointly monitored by both the faculty of IIT Madras and the mentor. The role of the IIT Madras faculty is to approve the problem statement and to review the student’s progress.
The MTech degree for working professionals already includes programmes on communications, VLSI and analog circuits, microelectronics, multimedia signal processing, software security, automotive engineering, mechanical design, interdisciplinary programmes in quantum technology and data sciences. With so many different programmes available, there is sure to be something for everyone working towards their MTech degree!
