The JEE Advanced 2022 registration process was completed on Thursday. The JEE Mains Advanced exam will be held on August 28 at 600 centers across India.

JEE MAIN

Out of the 2.6 lakh students who cleared the JEE (Main) last year, 1.5 lakh registered for JEE (Advanced). This year, a total of 1.6 lakh students have registered for JEE (Advanced), including 50 foreign nationals. The JEE (Advanced) is the examination that determines admissions to 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) across India.

The registration process for the entrance test was completed on Thursday. The exam, which will be computer-based, is going to be held on August 28 at 600 centres in 226 cities across India. There is no test centre outside India. “Students who have filled the forms but are yet to complete the payment of examination fee will have time till August 12 to complete the process. Admit cards will be issued from August 23,” said an official from the JEE 2022 office.

Out of all the students who cleared JEE (Main), last year 1.5 lakh registered for JEE (Advanced) while in 2020, 1.6 lakh had registered. In both years, only 1.5 lakh students appeared for the test. With 16,232 seats available in 23 IITs, considerably more than the 13,000 available in 2019, there has been an increase in available seats. This includes 1,583 supernumerary seats for females.

However, in recent years, some IITs have been struggling with vacancy issues – especially the newer ones. In 2017, 121 seats were left vacant, whereas in the previous year it was only 96. According to officials at the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA), older IITs and popular courses tend not to have vacancies. “However, if a student does not manage to get a seat in their desired IIT or course, taking admission to a non-IIT technology college is often preferred,” an official shared.
