NIT AgartalaThe National Institute of Technology Agartala, was earlier known as Tripura Engineering College. The college was established in 1965, and was affiliated with Calcutta University.Initially the college began teaching in Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering disciplines.These courses were similar with course curriculum of Bengal Engineering College and approved with All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. Later the college recognized as Regional Engineering College (REC), Tripura.
Further, with the conceptualization of NIT’s, the college renamed as National Institute of Technology and given the “Deemed University�? status by Ministry of Human Resource Development – Government of India.
The National Institute of Technology (NIT), Agartala is one of the centers of excellence for providing training in engineering sciences in north eastern region of the country.
The campus is spread over an area of 335 acres, and set amidst a sprawling landscape of natural quietness.The Institute has infrastructure facilities for conducting the Under Graduate and PG courses and extension of continuing education. The Institute has a boys and a girls hostel within the campus from 2007-2008 session. A well-equipped Medical Unit with a Medical Officer, Pharmacist and other supporting staff is also available in the campus. Ambulance service is available for emergency purposes.
