The Open Course Ware is the brain child of faculties of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Massachusetts who has taken the initiative to provide all under graduate and graduate material online. The MIT has announced the project in 2001. Today the MIT is providing about 1800 course material of under graduate and graduate programme through internet under its’ Open Course Ware (OCW) module.

As MIT begin its task of teaching masses through its Open Course Ware (OCW), many other institutions of the world follow the trend. As a result, in 2005, the MIT’s Open Course Ware and other leading OCW projects formed the OCW Consortium.

The OCW Consortium seeks to extend the reach and impact of open course material, promote new courses through OCW module and build up sustainable models for open courseware publication.

The OCW material is available on whole range of subjects through different universities’ websites.

The OCW is a boon to all those learners willing to learn something new and ultimately beneficial to society and industry.
