The Xavier Institute of Communications (XIC) is one of the oldest media institutes in Asia offering a variety of services in training and production. The institute was initiated in 1969 by The Catholic Bishops' Conference of India to develop scholarship and professionalism in the media. The Institute is located on the St. Xavier's College campus, Mumbai. XIC is an autonomous educational unit of the Bombay St. Xavier's College Society Trust, which comprises St. Xavier's College, the Institute of Management, the Institute of Counseling and the Heras Institute of Indian History and Culture. The institute, at present, offers Diploma and certificate courses in various branches of media studies. XIC conducts an all India level entrance test and subsequent interview/GD for selecting candidates to the Diploma programs.
Programs/ Eligibility
Diploma Courses Admission to Diploma courses is made on the basis of Written Entrance Test and Interview, which takes place in the month of June, before admission is finalized. The eligibility criteria for Diploma courses are given below: JR: Journalism & Mass Communications Anyone who is a graduate in Arts, Science, Mass Media, Commerce with at least 50 percent marks. Non-working students will be given preference because of the intensive study program. There is an entrance test followed by an individual interview. PR: Public Relations & Corporate Communications Any graduate in Arts, Science, Commerce, Mass Media with at least 50 percent marks. Non-working students will be given preference. There is an entrance test followed by an interview and a group discussion. AM: Advertising & Marketing Any graduate in Arts, Science, Commerce, BMS (business) or BMM (media), with at least 50 percent marks. Non-graduates who have completed five years of full-time work in an advertising agency may be considered. Because of the syllabus load, preference will be given to non-working students. DA: Digital Animation - students work Any graduate in Arts, Science, Commerce, BMS (business) or BMM (media), with at least 50 percent marks. Non-graduates who have completed five years of full-time work in an advertising agency may be considered. Because of the syllabus load, preference will be given to non-working students. TV: Television & Video Production Any graduate in Arts, Mass Media,Science or Commerce with at least 50 percent marks .Working persons are not eligible It is also recommended that each student have an access to or possess an SLR camera of their own for the still photography module.
