Regarding distance education as an important medium for the development and promotion of higher education, Madhya Pradesh Bhoj (Open) University (MPBOP) was established under an Act of State Assembly in the year of 1991.
The University imparts and disseminates quality education through Open and Distance (ODL) Learning system. It has made higher education easily accessible to all age groups with the help of flexible learning modes using various devices of information technology.
To materialize this objective, MPBOU has set up its maximum study centres in those areas where there is no other system of higher education in the vicinity of 30 km. More over the University also gives equal concern to the learners coming from rural/tribal areas and those suffering from the physical disabilities.
The University follows a three level system of functioning. The Head Quarter (HQ) of the university is situated at Bhopal. Eleven Regional Centres and one sub-Regional Centre of the university are located at Bhopal, Bilaspur, Durg, Gwalior, Indore, Jabalpur, Jagdalpur (Bastar), Raipur, Sagar, Ujjain, Rewa, and Satna work under the directives of the university HQ, as the regional link centres for the delivery of the university programmes through its 1049 study centres which are located in M.P, Chhattisgarh and in major cities of the country.
