The Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) was established in 1998 by an Act of the Parliament as a Central University with an All India jurisdiction. The University has started functioning from 9th January 1998 with its headquarters at Hyderabad. The campus is located in 200 acres of land at Gachibowli, Hyderabad.

The University is fully funded by the University Grants Commission and functions under the aegis of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.

The University offers postgraduate, graduate, diploma and certificate courses through distance education. It has uniquely partnered with the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi, by entering into a Memorandum of Collaboration which empowers this University to adopt, translate and offer any course of IGNOU into Urdu.

Directorate of Distance Education

The Directorate of Distance Education was established in Maulana Azad Medical University in 1998. The university offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in arts, science and commerce stream.

The University�s Directorate of Distance Education mainly targets the uneducated youths, dropouts, women, house wives, uneducated adults. (DOU 21082007)
