Macquarie University Scholarships for Postgraduate Research: Study Abroad in Australia

Macquarie University, Australia, is currently inviting applications for International Macquarie University Research Excellence Scholarships (iMQRES) and International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS). The scheme is designed for meritorious students who want to study abroad in Australia and pursue master’s or doctoral degrees in the Australian higher education sector for the session 2013 to 2014.

Programme

IPRS was established to develop international relationships in the research sector in Australia and support Australian research efforts. The Macquarie University Research Excellence Scholarships (MQRES) scheme is a doctoral scholarship program that supports meritorious students with tuition fees, insurance coverage and a living allowance for a period of two years for master’s degrees or three years for a doctorate. Students are enrolled in the university’s recognised Concentrations of Research Excellence (CORE) and the university more broadly.

Eligibility Criteria

The scholarship is only for students who:

  1. Belong to countries other than Australia or New Zealand and who are not Australian Permanent Residents
  2. Enrolling as full-time students
  3. Have completed a master’s degree program or are going to complete it in 2013
  4. Take up a Master of Philosophy in the academic session 2013 – 2014 from iMQRES

Other requirements:

  1. You must reside in Australia during the tenure of the award, unless on leave for approved research
  2. You must be beginning full-time enrollment in a higher degree research program in Australia for the first time
  3. If you began a higher research degree and discontinued enrollment within six months, you may still be eligible

Recipients of an award may:

  1. Be in receipt of other funds for fieldwork
  2. Be a recipient of minor awards supplementary to iMQRES or IPRS
  3. Receive top-up funding from industry or other sources up to 75 percent of the Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) stipend rate

The award will not be available to those students who:

  1. Have earlier held an iMQRES scholarship for more than six months
  2. Have been enrolled in Australian degree research program for more than six months, held an AUSAID in the last two years or receive funding for any other program from Australian Government-funded scholarships
  3. Are recipients of another equivalent scholarship or salary
  4. Have completed a research doctoral degree or its equivalent, or higher degree in research at the level or higher than the proposed programme

Application procedure

  • Applications must be downloaded from the official website, http://www.hrd.mq.edu.au/information-about/applications, all necessary instructions are available at the same site
  • The same application serves for the purpose of candidature and applying for the scholarship program at Macquarie University
  • The following details are to be provided along with the application form:
  1. Original or attested photocopies of all academic transcripts in English
  2. Attested copy of citizenship, ID card or identity page of passport
  3. A project proposed outline with reference list
  • Two academic referees must fill in the referee form and comment on your candidature. They must send the form directly to the university.
