These are among the growing number of co-operative scholarships and academic programs being launched with support of the Indian government, Indian universities and world-renowned universities like Oxford that intend to provide Indian students with the means to attain a world-class education in specific fields of study. This scholarship is for students in India who have been accepted by the University of Oxford to study programs relating to sustainable development. The goal is to provide the leaders of tomorrow’s India with the skills and academic qualifications necessary to foster sustainable development as well as disseminate knowledge and skills among co-workers and subordinates with the same objective in mind.
The Oxford-Indira Gandhi Graduate Scholarships focus on programs related to engendering sustainable development in India. To that end Somerville College of the University of Oxford is developing The Oxford India Centre for Sustainable Development. It has designated the following courses for which it, in collaboration with the government of India, will provide full-funding to Indian resident student applicants:
Apart from these the university also welcomes proposals which fall within its general umbrella of food and water security, energy, environmental conservation, medical research and healthcare, law, governance and gender respectively.
All applications for graduate study are to be submitted by the relevant January deadline for the concerned course (8 January 2016 for Medical Sciences, Philosophy, Politics & International Relations and Computer Science; 22 January 2016 for all other subjects).
Applying for the scholarship is inclusive in the graduate program application process and applicants will be assessed for eligibility based on the details (such as nationality, ordinary citizenship, course applied for etc.) that they fill up in the requisite form.
