IIM Shillong MBA Admission Criteria 2017-2019

The Post-Graduate Programme in Management [PGP] at the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong is a two-year full time residential programme for graduate students from any discipline who seek a career in management. IIM Shillong will select candidates for the PGP course 2017 – 2019 session through two phases after CAT 2016. In the first phase, candidates who have applied for admission are shortlisted on the basis of their CAT or GMAT scores and other eligibility criteria. The second phase involves preparing a final merit list on basis of which the institute will send offer letters to selected candidates. Let’s look at the different parameters involved in the process in more detail.

Phase 1: Shortlisting for personal interview (PI)
1. You must fulfill the following minimum criteria in order to qualify for personal interview:
IIM Shillong shared the cutoff list of not only CAT scores but the SSC, HSC and graduation cutoff percentile as well. There is no mention of overall cutoff percentile but the sectional cutoff stands at 70 for General Category candidates.

2. Next, the institute segregates all candidates who sent in their applications for the 2017 – 2019 course on basis of their graduation discipline, i.e. individual lists are created of percentage of candidates in every discipline who have opted for IIM Shillong. This is done using the following formula and based on the graduation discipline you mentioned in the CAT 2016 data:

The following notations denote the different candidates considered for shortlisting:
- Mj = Number of candidates in the jth category
- ∀j = D, T, C, G
where,
- D is for Differently abled (DA)
- T is for Scheduled Tribe (ST)
- C is for Scheduled Caste (SC)
- G is for Others (OT) candidates.
Thus, the number of candidates across categories will be MD, MT, MC and MG.
3. Next, if shortlisted on basis of the minimum qualification requirement in your respective category, i.e. MD, MT, MC and MG, you will be further segregated into sub-groups based on the discipline status in bachelor’s degree and ranked in decreasing order of the CAT percentile.
4. The number of candidates shortlisted for personal interview (PI) is based on the overall performance in CAT 2016, number of seats available, buffer for overlap, attendance trends from previous years, etc. Number of candidates shortlisted across categories is based on the following distribution:
- Differentially-abled candidates = 3 per cent of X
- Scheduled Tribe (ST) = 7.5 per cent of X
- Scheduled Caste (SC) =15 per cent of X
- Others (OT) = 74.5 per cent of X

5. The final shortlist of candidates for PI round will be calculated by taking into account the graduating discipline and the category. If shortlisted, you will be invited to apply for personal interview.
Phase 2: Creating merit list for admission offer to PGP in Management 2017- 2019
The final merit list will be established on basis of performance in personal interview and CAT 2016. IIM Shillong manages all communication between the institute and candidates through an online module. You will be able to see your shortlisted status (for personal interview), and will also be able to fill and submit an interview form if shortlisted for it. Your final admission status will be online by last week of April 2017. You can also use this module to confirm your admission if selected and make the fee payments.
Admission Criteria for Overseas Students
- You can apply for the PGP in Management course at IIM Shillong as an overseas candidate by submitting latest GMAT score, which is not older than two years at the time of applying. You could be an Indian citizen working or studying abroad for 18 months (as on 31 December, 2016) or more, and not have been in India during the CAT 2016 season.
- You will be required to fill an application form and mail it along with the following documents:
- Attested copy of GMAT scorecard.
- Attested copy of Bachelor’s degree mark sheet in any discipline or total current marks if in final year of study, from a recognised university or institution.
- A demand draft of cheque of US$150 “Rajiv Gandhi Indian Institute of Management Shillong” and payable at Shillong as application processing fee.
Selection Process
Your application will be screened and shortlisted for personal interview on the basis of your GMAT score, academic performance and work experience if any. The interview will be conducted in the cities of Bangalore, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Shillong between January and April, 2017, or can be also through video conferencing on a notified date. Final selection is carried out by including the results of PI to the earlier parameters used for PI shortlisting. The institute will send out admission letter by end-April 2017.
