IIT-Gandhinagar will Train 100 Economically weaker students

IIT Gandhinagar will train 100 students who are economically weaker in communication and leadership skills. The selection criteria are based on their academic performance in the 10th and 12th grades.

The IIT-GN, Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar, collaborated with Dakshana, an NGO, and Ruyintan Mehta, a philanthropist, and entrepreneur, to launch the “IITGN-Dakshana Leadership Programme.”

The initiative is done to make 100 economically weaker and academically distinguished students, especially from rural areas. Leadership, critical thinking, and communication skills are essential.

This training program will run from September 1, 2022, to September 30, 2022.

The first edition of the IITGN Dakshana Leadership Programme is hosted by the 100 Dakshana Scholars. They will be selected carefully from branches like Pune, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. Furthermore, these students are expected to receive training from renowned mentors in India and abroad. These students also visit Sabarmati Ashram, Adlaj Stepwell, and other heritage sites in Ahmedabad.

The students will come from the Navodaya Vidyalayas and other government schools across India. The selection criteria for this program are based on the academic records and results of Xth and XIIth along with Dakshana’s proprietary testing. And its parents’ annual income will also be noticed, and it’s estimated that they have an annual income of below 2 lakh.

The vision of Dakshana is to help bright and improvised students come from rural areas to prepare them for IIT and other medical exams through rigorous coaching for 2 years. In addition, the IITGN Dakshana Leadership Programme desires to prepare students with skills and knowledge, particularly in the IIT environment, so that they can achieve their full potential.
