Tamil Nadu Rains: Colleges And Schools Will Remain Closed Due To Heavy Rains

Several districts in Tamil Nadu are expecting heavy rainfall over the next four days, according to the MET department. In several areas around Anna Salai and in other congested areas of north Chennai, waterlogging led to traffic congestion and slow movement of vehicles. This was especially noticeable in Pulianthope and other southern neighbourhoods of the city.

Chennai’s Nungambakkam district received 80.4 mm of rain on November 1 – the third highest rainfall in 72 years. Nagapattinam district received up to 4.5 cm of rain till 5:30 am this morning.

As the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts 35-75% more rainfall in Tamil Nadu this season, Chief Minister M K Stalin urges district administrators to review and be prepared with relief and emergency operation plans. He asks that administrators keep hospitals ready, mobile phone services prepared, and relief centres on standby so that they can be quickly mobilized in the event of an emergency.
