“Although His Holiness Dalai Lama will not be joining the programme in person, he has sent a message expressing his spiritual participation”, Dhammapiya said. He hopes that DDIBU will offer students and young people insight and depth into the Buddhist lens and a better understanding of the contemporary world. The programme will also prepare students and youth with the knowledge and skills they need to lead healthy, peaceful, and satisfying lives.

Students from 31 countries will be able to study and research Buddhist literature, culture, and tradition at the proposed varsity. In addition, there are plans to establish medical, technical, and general degree colleges on the campus. On September 26, the Tripura Assembly passed a bill to establish a Buddhist University at Manu Bankul, around 135 km from the state capital.
